PLATO the ancient Greek Sage, along with Socrates and Aristotle, laid the philosophical foundations of Western Culture.
It was the irrepressible Plato who famously insisted that deity geometrizes in fabricating the Universe.
In his dialogue Timaeus (c. 360 B.C.) he says “there is a fifth figure (made of twelve pentagons), the dodecahedron. God used this as a model for the twelvefold division of the Zodiac.”
“Various models have been proposed for the global geometry of the universe,” Wikipedia explains.
“In addition to the primitive geometries, these proposals include the Poincaré dodecahedral space, a positively curved space consisting of a dodecahedron whose opposite faces correspond (with a small twist).
This was proposed by Jean-Pierre Luminet and colleagues in 2003 and an optimal orientation on the sky for the model was estimated in 2008.”
Wrote H. P. Blavatsky in Isis Unveiled: “The solution of the great problem of eternity belongs neither to religious superstition nor to gross materialism.
“The harmony and mathematical equiformity of the double evolution — spiritual and physical — are elucidated only in the universal numerals of Pythagoras, who built his system entirely upon the so-called ‘metrical speech’ of the Hindu Vedas.”
“One of the most zealous Sanskrit scholars, Martin Haug, undertook the translation of the Aitareya Brahmana of the Rig-Veda. It had been till that time entirely unknown; these explanations indicate beyond dispute the identity of the Pythagorean and Brahmanical systems.
“Plato, the ardent disciple of Pythagoras,” Mme. Blavatsky wrote, “realized it so fully as to maintain that the Dodecahedron was the geometrical figure employed by the Demiurgus in constructing the universe. Some of these figures had a peculiarly solemn significance. For instance four, of which the Dodecahedron is the trine, was held sacred by the Pythagoreans.
“If the Pythagorean metempsychosis should be thoroughly explained and compared with the modern theory of evolution, it would be found to supply every ‘missing link’ in the chain of the latter. But who of our scientists,” she asked, “would consent to lose his precious time over the vagaries of the ancients?
“Notwithstanding proofs to the contrary, they not only deny that the nations of the archaic periods, but even the ancient philosophers had any positive knowledge of the Heliocentric system. But now philology and a closer acquaintance with Sanskrit literature have partially enabled us to vindicate them from these unmerited imputations.”
“In the Vedas, for instance, we find positive proof that so long ago as 2000 B.C., the Hindu sages and scholars must have been acquainted with the rotundity of our globe and the Heliocentric system. Hence, Pythagoras and Plato knew well this astronomical truth; for Pythagoras obtained his knowledge in India, or from men who had been there, and Plato faithfully echoed his teachings.”
The discovery of a mysterious, ancient object beneath the Mediterranean sea confirms Theosophical teachings: “More than 21 centuries ago, a mechanism of fabulous ingenuity was created in Greece, a device capable of indicating exactly how the sky would look for decades to come — the position of the moon and sun, lunar phases and even eclipses. But this incredible invention would be drowned in the sea and its secret forgotten for two thousand years.”
For more than a century researchers have been trying to understand its functions. Since 2005, a multidisciplinary research team, the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project, is studying the Mechanism, using the latest cutting edge technology available.”
Hi Editors, I’m one of your enthused subscribers (as a long time fellow theosophist). you do a great job gathering this material! not sure if this return email address will work but I’ll try. I wanted to share the attached information perhaps it’s of interest for TW, or just personally, or to help spread the word. BTW, Shyla Nelson is also a theosophist. Best wishes, Tom
