In the Matrix
MAINSTREAM science looking for the source of consciousness insists its origin has to be generated in the physical brain.
Most neuroscientists agree that all cognition arises from the activity of neurons attached to specific structures, which have fixed brain locations.
Yet many credible scientific researchers today are unconvinced and dispute these biased mainstream materialistic assumptions.
Open-minded investigators are willing to pursue truth wherever it leads, even exploring evidence that mind and its corresponding consciousness is a living entity independent of the physical structures through which it manifests.
But because research findings on this question upset established assumptions, it is frequently ignored by mainstream science. H. P. Blavatsky found the same evidence in her own era declaring:
We live in an age of prejudice, dissimulation and paradox, wherein, like dry leaves caught in a whirlpool, we are tossed helpless, hither and thither, ever struggling between our honest convictions and fear of that cruelest of tyrants—PUBLIC OPINION.
-H. P. Blavatsky, A Paradoxical World

Yet, poised fearlessly at the cutting edge of psi research are scientific organizations such as the respected Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in Petaluma, California, and the Institute of HeartMath in Boulder Creek. These researchers, and others, like NES energy medicine, are willing to take a leap in pursuit of the fast-moving “soul of things.”
Many frontier investigators risk being minimized and shunned by their peers—their careers stalled as funding dries up.
Such investigations were formerly the exclusive precinct of canny ancient intuitives and seers. Today there are many qualified, sincere scientific investigators on the hunt for answers to the puzzling questions of consciousness that stymie mainstream science.

Buddha meditating under the Bo Tree
“The Secret Doctrine is the accumulated Wisdom of the Ages, and its cosmogony alone is the most stupendous and elaborate system,” Mme. Blavatsky wrote.
“The facts which have actually occupied countless generations of initiated seers and prophets to marshal, to set down and explain, in the bewildering series of evolutionary progress, are all recorded on a few pages of geometrical signs and glyphs.”
The flashing gaze of those seers has penetrated into the very kernel of matter, and recorded the soul of things there.
“The genuine texts of the Upanishads treat of and expound the secret and mystic meaning of the Vedic texts. They speak of the origin of the Universe, the nature of Deity, and of Spirit and Soul, as also of the metaphysical connection of mind and matter. In a few words: They contain the beginning and the end of all human knowledge, but they have now ceased to reveal it, since the day of Buddha. . . . One thing in them — and this in all the Upanishads — invariably and constantly points to their ancient origin.”
“But modern science believes not in the ‘soul of things,’ and hence will reject the whole system of ancient cosmogony.”
Now all this may be changing . . .
The Field Outside the Brain
“The brain doesn’t have precise addresses for certain things. No one’s been able to find where memory is, for instance. Memory might not exist inside the skull at all, but may be somewhere in the body’s surrounding field or matrix.”
The End of Materialism
Dr. Charles T. Tart has been involved with research and theory in the fields of Hypnosis, Psychology, Transpersonal Psychology, Parapsychology, Consciousness and Mindfulness since 1963. His books include The End of Materialism: How Evidence of the Paranormal Is Bringing Science and Spirit Together. He presents over fifty years of scientific research conducted at the nation’s leading universities that prove humans do have natural spiritual impulses and abilities. Dr. Tart has authored over a dozen books.
Two of his books became widely-used textbooks, and he has had more than 250 articles published in professional journals and books, including lead articles in the prestigious scientific journal Science and Nature. Dr. Tart led numerous workshops on GlideWing, and is regularly tapped for public speaking appearances.

Measuring the Immeasurable
“In its knowledge of the ultimate constitution of matter, or in the so-called ultimate analysis as opposed to the proximate in chemistry, occult science may be less well-informed as to the behaviour of compound elements in various cases of physical correlations: still, it is immeasurably higher in its knowledge of the ultimate occult states of matter, and of the true nature of matter, than all the physicists and chemists of our modern day put together.”
The ancient Initiates had a far wider knowledge of physics — as a Science of Nature — than our Academies of Science, all taken together, possess…

Leap We Must
“One must not agree with those who teach that it is unphilosophical to enquire into first causes,” H. P. Blavatsky wrote in The Mind in Nature, “and that all that we can do is to consider their physical effects.”
In her article Kosmic Mind, Blavatsky also notes that “the progress of physiology itself . . . is a sure warrant that the dawn of that day when a full recognition of a universally diffused mind will be an accomplished fact, is not far off. It is only a question of time.”
In that article, she takes consciousness to an even deeper level by the assertion of:
the evident discrimination
and a mind in the cells.

Helena P. Blavatsky
“The field of scientific investigation is bounded by physical nature on every side,” Blavatsky reminds her readers, “hence, once the limits of matter are reached, enquiry must stop and work be re-commenced.”
The Theosophist has no desire to play at being a squirrel upon its revolving wheel, he must refuse to follow the lead of the materialists.

Reducing Reductionism
(Excerpt from The Living Matrix)
In the full-length film, The Living Matrix – The Science of Healing, there are “breakthroughs that will transform your understanding of how to get well and stay well. This is an up-close look at the science of information as medicine. Leading researchers and health practitioners share their discoveries on the ‘miracle cures’ traditional medicine can’t explain.”
“Our film, The Living Matrix – The Science of Healing, uncovers new ideas about the intricate web of factors that determine our health. We talk with a group of dedicated scientists, psychologists, bioenergetic researchers and holistic practitioners who are finding healing potential in new places. The documentary brings together academic and independent researchers, practitioners, and science journalists whose work reveals scientific evidence that energy and information fields, not genetics, control health and wellbeing.”
“Magnus Limbus”
“Paracelsus was, perhaps, the only Occultist in Europe, during the last centuries since the Christian era, who was versed in this mystery,” H. P. Blavatsky wrote.

The Invisible Pattern Body
The Magnus Limbus
Although the philosophical doctrines of Paracelsus sprang from the same source as modern Theosophy, a difficulty arises from the differences in the terms used. Where H.P.B. used chiefly Sanskrit terms, Paracelsus coined words of his own to express the same ideas.

Milky Way Galaxy
He used the words Magnus Limbus and Yliaster to describe the great Matrix of Cosmos, in which the Universe existed in a condition of potentiality before the period of manifestation. He compared this matrix to a nursery in which the seed of the Universe was germinated, describing the condition of the Universe at that time as similar to the heat contained in a pebble or the potential figure existing in a block of wood.
Paracelsus saw spirit and matter present in every form and would not admit the existence of “dead matter.” “There is nothing dead in Nature,” he affirmed. “Everything is organic and living, and therefore the world appears to be a living organism.”
There is nothing corporeal which does not possess a soul hidden in it. There exists nothing in which is not a hidden principle of life.
“The matrix is invisible and no one can see its primal substance, for who can see that which was before him? All of us come from the matrix, but no one has ever seen it because it existed before man.”
(The Hermetic and Alchemical Writings of Paracelsus)

Movie: The Matrix
Paracelsus wrote:
And even though man comes from it, and men are born from it again and again, no one has seen it.
The world was born from the matrix, as was man and all other living creatures, all this has come out of the matrix.
– Paracelsus, “The “Swiss Hermes”

Hidden Wisdom
A Field is Required
“An intriguing example of the mystery surrounding the human nervous system, as currently understood, is found in professional dancers,” says biophysicist and cell biologist James L. Oschman, PhD – who chooses not to “follow the lead” of his reductionist colleagues.
The art and science of dance, says Oschman, “is not describable in terms of nerve impulses.” Instead, he insists, “a field theory is required.”

Modern Dance
√
This seemed quite similar to the phrase Blavatsky’s uses: “inexpressible in terms of foot-pounds” — when one attempts she notes in correspondence to describe the subtle root-essence of “immaterial thought.” (Isis Unveiled and the Visishtadwaita, H. P. Blavatsky)
What is required to explain the dancer’s multitasking, acrobatic synchrony, is “a tangible but elusive regulatory field,” energy researcher James L. Oschman writes.

The Regulatory Field – James L. Oschman, PhD
This field may be what Theosophy calls the “protean or plastic double” described by H. P. Blavatsky, which is both ‘somewhere out there’ — yet inexplicably tethered and intertwined to the physical body, brain and nervous system regulating and patterning them. (Studies in Occultism by H. P. Blavatsky)
Out There
(Excerpt from The Living Matrix, The Science of Healing)
The Placebo Effect
No single artifact of modern experimental science and medicine has been more exploited, or more ignored and unexplored, than the mysterious “placebo effect.” This is when a patient is given an inert pill, told that it may improve his/her condition, but not told that it is in fact inert.
In one study, patients with arthritis receiving a “placebo” were pain-free three years later.
Ρ

Gift of Health
“Anything that unleashes more of the body’s self-healing system,” says biologist and morphic resonance pioneer Rupert Sheldrake, in this excerpt from The Living Matrix,
“… is going to be
a better system.”

The Thinking Gym
“Every thought is in regard to some thing and produces an image of that thing; the concentration of the Thinker upon the matrix he has created draws into it the lives that swarm in the terrestrial atmosphere, energizes them and gives them direction, according to the motive and desire of the Thinker; this matrix, made a living force, can insidiously impel to action other Thinkers whose natures and desires are similar or who have the seeds of such desires within them, and all this whether the creator of the matrix is conscious of the results or not.

Buddha
“’Thought’ or more correctly, the ability to think, is the most powerful creative, destructive, preservative or regenerating agent that any beings possess; it acts weakly and strongly, according to the knowledge and power of concentration of the Thinker.”
In occultism, ‘thought’ is the real plane of action; what we see or perceive physically are merely the effects of thought.
– Robert Crosbie, “Answers to Questions on The Ocean of Theosophy”
Mind-Reading
Not so Simple
A group of scientists at Rutgers University and UCLA have published a report in the October 2009 issue of Psychological Science that suggests possible methods for predicting brain activity, and hence “reading” minds.
The findings present a brain model that is much more complex than previously thought.
“The brain is such a complex thing,” Blavatsky declared, “both physically and metaphysically, that it is like a tree whose bark you can uncover layer by layer, each layer being different from all the others, each having its own special work, function and properties.”
– H. P. Blavatsky, Psychic and Noetic Action

Brain Lights
“What our research shows,” says Rutgers psychology professor Stephen José Hanson, “is that if you want to understand human cognitive function
you need to look at system-wide behavior across the entire brain.
“You can’t just pinpoint a specific area of the brain, for example, and say that is the area responsible for our concept of self or that part is the source of our morality,” says Hanson. “It turns out the brain is much more complex and flexible than that. It has the ability to rearrange neural connections for different functions. By examining the pattern of neural connections, you can predict with a high degree of accuracy what mental processing task a person is doing.“

Looking at the big picture.
Explains Hanson:
You can’t do it by looking at single cells or areas, you need to look at many areas of the brain to even understand the simplest of functions.

Out of Body Healing
The new scientific studies demonstrating the compelling necessity for a field theory are philosophically important proposals for breaking down the current reductionist models that are forcing science into their materialistic holding pattern.

Out of body experience.
But the healing effects that have been reported, secondary to the biofield theory, are of even greater practical value to humanity in everyday life, especially self-healing.
Healing Using Mind, Intention & Belief

Law of Love
“But stay, Disciple . . . Yet, one word. Canst thou destroy divine COMPASSION? Compassion is no attribute,” says The Voice of the Silence:
“It is the LAW of LAWS – eternal Harmony — a shoreless universal essence, the light of everlasting Right, and fitness of all things, the law of love eternal.”
“The more thou dost become at one with it, thy being melted in its BEING, the more thy Soul unites with that which IS, the more thou wilt become COMPASSION ABSOLUTE.”
Σ

Compassion Absolute
“This ‘compassion’ must not be regarded in the same light as ‘God, the divine love’ of the Theists,” Blavatsky comments in a footnote. “Compassion stands here as
“…an abstract, impersonal law whose nature, being absolute Harmony, is thrown into confusion by discord, suffering and sin.”

Happy Birthday Plasma
The summer of August 22, 2010, marked the 131st anniversary of the discovery of “radiant matter” or “plasma” as the fourth state of matter in 1879, by English scientist, Sir William Crookes, (1832-1919).

H. P. Blavatsky devotes many pages of The Secret Doctrine to Crookes’ researches in chemistry which she said came close to the teachings of the ancient wisdom.
(The Secret Doctrine Vol. 2:652-3, 2:737)

Â
H. P. Blavatsky “also used his [Crookes’] famous demonstration of the existence of the astral or ethereal double in man, with its capacity for a temporary existence independently of the physical body,” explains Theosophical writer Charles J. Ryan,
“… as an apt illustration of the ethereal condition of the human race in its earlier pre-physical evolution.”

Sir William Crookes with Katie King
Sixty years earlier, Michael Faraday had postulated “radiant matter” as “purely hypothetical”. On 17 January 1816, Faraday delivered a series of lectures to the City Philosophical Society, one of which was titled “Radiant Matter.”
